The species can be distinguished from other look-alike hoverflies by its feature of having unique "moustache" black bands on tergites 3 and 4 of its abdomen. Not capable of producing honey, still like other hoverflies, they've proved to be effective pollinators and natural pest enemies such as aphids'.

There is a wonderful nature preserve there and while some brave members of our team went zip lining, I decided to take the artistic route of meandering through the nature preserve’s butterfly garden with my camera.
