I’ve recently been invited to place my work in a gallery in Highgate, these are two bowls that form part of my table ware selection. The clay is thrown thin and these have had a full single dip of glaze, followed by two more dips to create the lines and overlap. Where they’ve overlapped there are effectively three dips, the thick glaze then having a reaction with the clay body, causing the ‘moon’ ‘volcanic’ effect… These are taken by my large lounge window on a simple white table, and are usually better when there is a soft grey light and capturing the white hues, soft shadows.

Handles are not something I’ve enjoyed making and attaching till now. Their design is critical in order to feel at one with the vessel, and so it’s been a little bit of a journey for me to get all of the elements to working well together. I like the light handle, and a sharp edges of the lip. Many decisions need to be made in the maker process, how thin, how fine, how lite, and practicing the skill to be able to make, before trialling and seeing if it works. A very iterative - process.
