How Rolfing® SI can help you.
Movement Efficiency
Sometimes back pain, stiffness, or poor posture comes from old patterns we don't even realize we have. The education and solid hands-on work of Rolfing SI helps you move more efficiently to support your body's more natural alignment and balance with gravity. Via the nervous system, we help the body become more aware of where it is in space. Your movements become more pleasurable and efficient when you're no longer fighting gravity.
Mobility Enhancement
Rolfing® Structural Integration and myofascial release techniques increase joint mobility and flexibility, promoting ease of movement and long-term physical resilience. Rolfing is an excellent rehab tool for injury recovery and prevention as well as regaining movement after joint replacement.
Postural Assessment
Each session includes assessment of standing posture and more importantly, your movement patterns. Personalized guidance enhances body mechanics and movement efficiency to help prevent backsliding into old patterns.
A series of Rolfing sessions is like resetting your body’s alignment so everything works more smoothly—like tuning up a car.
Personalized manual therapy tailored to restore your body's natural balance and ease.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your individual goals. While many clients experience noticeable improvements after a series of 10 sessions, individual fix-it sessions, 3 and 5-series sessions are also normal protocol.
What should I expect during a session?
We start by taking a look at how your body moves—how you stand, walk, and hold yourself. This helps us figure out what’s going on beneath the surface and tailor the session to what your body needs. You’ll wear something like a sports bra, shorts, or just your usual undergarments—whatever you’re comfortable in that lets us see how your body is moving. Since Rolfing is hands-on, you’ll be on the table for part of the session, but we’ll also have you stand or walk around from time to time to check how things are shifting.
While one session can definitely help, Rolfing SI is designed as a series of 3, 5 and 10 sessions that build on each other. The body typically doesn’t just react to stress or injury in one spot—it tends to adapt pretty quickly in other places so you can keep going. Each session focuses on a different area or movement pattern, helping your body find better balance and ease over time. Of note, the idea that bodywork needs to hurt is out-dated. Good work should never hurt. Period. Thankfully, we're way beyond the days of no pain-no gain!
Where are you located?
Beth Burgin is based in beautiful downtown Wilmington, NC at the Cotton Exchange Executive Offices, 321 N Front Street. We're on the corner of Walnut and Front. I offer validated free parking in the Cotton Exchange parking lot, entrance on grace street, which is located directly behind the Cotton Exchange.
How much does it cost?
Currently a solo Rolfing session, which runs about 75-90 minutes, is $140. A 3-series is $400 and a 10-series is $1200.
A 10-series of Rolfing® Structural Integration is an obvious time and financial commitment for most people. My recommendation before booking a 10-series is to book the first session, we'll see if we click and go from there. The first session payment can go towards a 3 or 10-series. Hope to see you soon!
How do I prepare for my first session?
Come hydrated and wear comfortable clothing. Be ready to discuss your health history, current concerns, and goals to help us tailor the session to your needs. This work can be transformative on many levels, not just physical relief of symptoms. Questions you might ask yourself, in listening to your own narrative about what's at issue are; Do I want to change, do I choose to change and am I ready to change?
Can I combine Advanced Rolfing with other treatments?
Yes, Advanced Rolfing can complement other treatments such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, or massage to enhance overall body balance and healing. However we do generally recommend not doing too many types of manual therapy all at once because then, when things do change and you start feeling better, we won't know what made the difference. 'Wear one hat at a time' is a good idea until you're in maintenance mode and have found a particular combo of therapies that are synergistic for your needs.
How does Rolfing differ from other bodywork therapies?
Rolfing® Structural Integration (SI) is a hands-on interactive process that helps you replace effortful habits with ease, comfort, and a sense of whole-body balance and connection. We're doing this work WITH you, not TO you. Participation and awareness are super important. Like other therapies, we are going for muscle relaxation and symptom relief, but Rolfers are also looking for grace, pleasure, aliveness & coherence of the body in motion. In the end, we're helping you get out of pain and get back to living your best life, for the long haul.
Is Rolfing painful?
While some areas may feel tender at first, the slow speed at which Rolfers work offers the advantage of allowing the nervous system to accept the work and release long-term holding patterns. Advanced Rolfing is generally comfortable although yes, it once was considered excruciating which is most unfortunate as the majority of people would benefit greatly from this particular process of bodywork therapy. Bottom line ~ we work within your comfort level to ensure a positive experience.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Rolfing is a safe therapy when performed by a trained practitioner. Some clients may experience mild soreness or fatigue after sessions, which typically resolves quickly. Staying hydrated helps with the soreness.
How do I know someone is a trained SI practitioner?
Rolfing® and Rolfer® are registered trademarks. You can find out if your practitioner truly is a Rolfer if they are listed with the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute.
They may also have trained at one of 16 other schools of Structural Integration and still be legit as a practitioner. The International Association of Structural Integrators (IASI) maintains a list of vetted world-wide practitioners.
There are plenty of great practitioners out there and there is no one size or therapy that fits all. I always recommend people try a few sessions and see if the therapist is a good fit for you. North Carolina, and most states, require licensing of massage or bodywork therapists. If you are concerned about that you can check here to see if they are licensed in NC.
