This model simple, and starts with a sphere. Then, separate pieces are made for the tunnels by simply creating a path, like drawing a line in Illustrator, and simply extruding the line into a 3D object, so it's like a worm. The worm is placed going through the sphere and using a Boolean node to subtract it from the solid sphere. Simple. However, use this simple procedure, with more complex shapes and you can create a variety of whatever texture you want. This approach is what I used to create a much more complex Fire/Lava 3D model.
