Personas can be trite; I know how to base personas in social analysis, so they are true archetypes underpinned by robust data. 

I'm proficient with BI tools, including Tableau and KNIME, making actionable insights without the human falling out of focus.

Beyond research, I have experience designing, and working w/ a range of stakeholders on my designs.

I'm skilled in many UX methodologies. I know how research should fit, evangelizing insights and building data-centered processes

I have deep experience with various analytics tools, including GA4 and Pendo, and helping others understanding user statistics.

In this pandemic I have been able to work on my personal projects, this is a wireframe that I have been designing.

Gaining a deep understanding the problems that customers face is how you build products that provide value and grow. It all starts with a conversation. You have to let go of your assumptions so you can listen with an open mind and understand what’s actually important to them. That way you can build something that makes their life better. Something they actually want to buy.

I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge working with Prof. Joel Robbins. My dissertation is on Witness evangelism, or preaching, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Jehovah’s Witnesses, as their moniker suggests, understand evangelism as central to their religious practice and identity. As many readers of this webpage will have encountered on street corners and front porches, Jehovah’s Witnesses preach all around the world. Their audience is anyone who will listen who is not already a Witness. More specifically, they preach to “the world.” The world is a rich Witness theological concept that entails not only individual human beings (who are not Witnesses) but also the sociological, historical, and linguistic systems into which human beings are born (consider reading this on the Witness theology of the world). Importantly, the world is controlled by Satan, the Devil. So, Witnesses preach to satanically controlled worlds as they traverse different contexts around the globe, or even in a singular geographic locality. Evangelism is also theologically differentiated from preaching. Preaching stresses the method whereas evangelism stresses the content (see here). To wit, evangelism is any form of communication with the world that specifically conveys "the Good News of Jehovah’s Kingdom,” where preaching is descriptive of the method of communication: a face-to-face encounter between an evangelizer and the world.
In my dissertation I flesh out an anthropological understanding of evangelism as communication between a religious community and their other. This communication has a particular telos that ends in salvation, but critically, begins with God (see Handman 2018, p. 154). As such, evangelism is inherently pedagogical. For Jehovah’s Witnesses, this is true in multiple ways. On the one hand, as discussed above, it faces outwards towards the world, as Witnesses attempt to preach the Good News. On the other, however, it faces inwards as Witnesses cultivate themselves into “makers of disciples” (see here). I explore both of these aspects of Witness evangelism.
I am also interested in numerous other aspects of Witness life. I’m particularly taken up with the ways that Witnesses use technologies developed in the world for the use of preaching the Kingdom, sometimes referred to as the “milk of nations” (see here). My research investigates the ways that the milk of nations intersects with millenarian doctrine and the utopian visions of the new world order Witnesses believe Jehovah will instate after the end times. This touches on everything from the use of social media to imaginaries of interstellar space travel and the colonization of exoplanets (though the later, to be fair, is a pretty extreme example). I conduct typical ethnographic research investigating the ways Witnesses deploy secularly developed technologies in evangelism and the administration of their global organization but I also use digital ethnography to explore Witness lives in digital spaces, looking particularly at how these digital spaces are entangled with millenarian visions of the (immediate) future.
