In dieser Woche sind wieder ein paar Dinge passiert. Von Upscaling zu neuen Kerneltreibern.
FSR3: AMD hat endlich den Source Code zu FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) 3 freigegeben. Diese, insbesondere für Spiele gedachte, Software ermöglicht es Bilder "in Echtzeit" hochzurechnen und so Last von der GPU zu nehmen. Version 3 erschien erstmals Anfang Oktober in zwei Spielen, konnte aber erstmals im kürzlich erschienenen Avatar Spiel überzeugen. Der Source Code ist jetzt auf Github verfügbar, so dass FSR3 nun deutlich mehr Verbreitung finden sollte. Ein weiterer Vorteil von FSR ist, dass es (im Gegensatz zum Closed Source DLSS von NVIDIA) auch auf Grafikkarten von anderen Herstellern läuft.
Firefox für Android: Das Anfang November angekündigte offene Addon Ökosystem ist jetzt gestartet. Es sind aktuell etwa 500 Addons verfügbar, darunter auch vieler der beliebtesten Addons, wie UBlockOrigin oder DarkReader.
Mit dem öffnen des Addon Ökosystem auf Android hat der Firefox ein weiteres Alleinstellungsmerkmal geschaffen. Abgesehen von Datenschutz, verhindern eines Monopols (oder zumindest der Versuch dessen) und einigen weiteren.
Intel Xe Treiber: Intel arbeitet seit einer Weile an einem neuen DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) Kernel Treiber, der den alten i915 Treiber ersetzt und damit die Möglichkeit schafft, die Entwicklung zu vereinfachen und eventuell auch die Performance zu verbessern. Dieser Treiber soll zwar nur für neuere GPUs funktionieren (die Arc Grafikkarten und die neueren iGPUs) aber der alte Treiber existiert ja immer noch und wird das auch noch eine ganze Weile tun.
Dieser neue "Xe" genannte Treiber wurde jetzt zum Mergen eingereicht und wird eventuell bereits mit Linux 6.8 zum Einsatz kommen.
