Figure, Concept and Matter
He was born in Quintanar de la Orden (Toledo) in La Mancha, land of giants and of the legendary knight-errant Don Quixote.
Drawsman, illustrator, designer, painter, and sculptor. From a very young age, he became interested in drawing, anatomy, and art history. At the age of ten, he won the "Muy Leal Villa de Quintanar" First Prize for Drawing, awarded by Antonio Arnau, who would later become his first drawing and painting teacher. First promotion of his school.
In 1981, he studied in the high school of Quintanar de la Orden. During the 1980s, he was a founding member of the punk-rock group Klandestinos. He collaborated with various fanzines such as "La Lechuga Fresquita" and "La Tribu" (Quintanar de la Orden), and later, in Madrid, he designed layouts for "Totem" and "Víbora". He held his first solo exhibition in 1984.
In 1985, he moved to Madrid where he studied Psychology at the UCM (Complutense University). An almost daily visitor to the Prado Museum, where he met the british painter Francis Bacon, sketching on Velazquez, he also attended the Reina Sofia Art Center from 1992 onward. In 1987, he studied Photocomposition at Vallehermoso College of Madrid. In 1989, he studied Printmaking, Mosaics, and Stained Glass at the School of Arts and Crafts (n. 10). In 1991, he served in the Military Government of Madrid and, in the meantime, studied Drawing and Painting with natural pattern at the Fine Arts Circle of Madrid. In Madrid, during the final years of the Movida movement, he usually exhibited in bars, hence defining his art as Underground, as he had not exhibited in official venues during those years. Since 1991, he is fully dedicated to painting and illustrating.
He has collaborated with various groups and collectives such as Manch'arte, MalasañArt, Quinarte, and Els Oblidats, among others. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions with various groups and galleries (Toledo, Madrid, Tarragona, Barcelona, New York, Ciudad Real, etc.). He has also participated in numerous art fairs, such as the Shanghai International Art Fair, The Armory Show (New York), the San Diego Contemporary Art Show, the Vancouver International Art Fair, and the Cremona International Art Fair, among others. He has exhibited individually in Toledo, Madrid, Tarragona, Albacete, and more. He was a finalist for the Spanish National Painting Prize in 2012.
He is currently holding a retrospective exhibition at the El Recreo Exhibition Hall in Quintanar de la Orden entitled "The Memory of Pain, the Memory of Color." He is also exhibiting, alongside his late first teacher, "Ensamble: Antonio Arnau - Jesús Meco," at the Casa de Piedra Museum, also in this town in Toledo.
