DNA Genotyping and Sequencing. Technician prepares for a viral whole-genome sequencing experiment at the Cancer Genomics Research Laboratory, part of the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG).

The National Cancer Institute's Natural Products Branch at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research is the largest program to collect materials worldwide from marine, plant, and microbial sources so they may be studied for possible medical uses.

This photograph was captured during one of the steps in a new environmental surveillance technique, that is being piloted in other labs. It is established on a filtration-based method, used in the Western Pacific region. The benefits include not having to be incubated overnight in the cold, and that it uses three filters at one time, proving to be faster, and cheaper.
