Puzzle Tours for All Ages

Enjoy a free 1-2 hour worldwide unique interactive tour focusing on all puzzle types. Any group of 4-10 people may contact us (only by appointment).

This Puzzle Tour is not an IQ test. It is an epic journey through the amazing world of puzzles, novel ideas and extraordinary mechanisms.

If you travel to Kastellorizo with a priority to visit the Meduseum, please contact us to ensure we will be available during your stay to avoid disappointment. Although 95% of the time we are on the island, sometimes we are away for puzzle presentations or other events.

Note that, in 2021 the Meduseum was declared as a European Center for Arts, Science and Culture.

When Ancient Mechanisms and Novel Puzzles focus on Education

The Meduseum offers something extremely rare: Puzzles which are directly related to content taught at schools and universities. Pantazis Houlis has won lecturing awards at university level by using puzzles to reinforce understandable knowledge, while he is also the mind behind novel puzzles sold at Harrods.

The puzzles are usually manufactured in limited edition, as they mainly target schools and other educational insitutions.

During the Puzzle Tour, there is an interactive display of amazing mechanical devices inspired by ancient Greek inventions, showcasing the ingenuity of the past in action and how puzzles have evolved today. It also reveals Greece's leading role in puzzles.

Interactive Presentations and Famous Lectures

We love to be invited to travel and provide unforgettable interactive Puzzle Presentations at schools, universities and private events. Demand is very high and time is limited, so please book as early as possible.

Presentations may involve interactive puzzle play, puzzle lectures, or both.

The most famous puzzle lectures by Pantazis Houlis have been posted online on the well known Bodosaki site. Click on the link below to view the videos of those lectures.

Kastellorizo Tradition

Learn about Kastellorizo's long tradition in puzzles. Local magazines of the 19th century and local newspapers of the 1960s are overflowing with puzzles and riddles. Greece is regularly represented at the International Puzzle Party by two highly awarded Greeks, both with origins from Kastellorizo. One of the biggest puzzle collections worldwide exists in the Meduseum.

Puzzle Festivals

Since 2020, the Meduseum has been the core of puzzles in Greece. And using this core, since 2021, Pantazis Houlis and Eleni Grammatikopoulou with the help of the Municipality of Megisti and other sponsors organise the Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival around mid-October. It has been so successful and popular, that it was required to conduct Puzzle Festivals in other places too: Patras (2022), Athens (2022), and Xanthi (2025). Every Festival is filled with puzzles, and there are many scientific and cultural interactive events.

Research and Development

We collaborate with Schools, Universities (University of Aegean and the University of Western Australia) and Institutions (ICSD - Stefanos Panakoulias) to conduct research in the ways puzzles help:

  1. Efficient Education. Making Classes more Understandable and Fun.

  2. Autistic Children and Learning Difficulties.

  3. Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.

  4. Improving Well Being and Sustainability.

Mountain Paths and Ancient Sites

The Meduseum's founder, Pantazis Houlis, has been the only volunteer of Kastellorizian origin to form the island's unique trail network. His knowledge about known and unknown paths cannot be rivaled.

During those years, Manolis Roxanas partenered for the opening of more than 30km, Petros Tsokataridis contributed hugely in the north, while the late Dimitris Kampouris and Clubs from Vrilissos and Fyli also helped.

He had already created an impressive walking map of the island in 2018, before a professional map (by Terrain - Stefanos Psimenos) was made in 2021 and then in 2026 through a project funded by the Municipality of Megisti.

Kastellorizo has unique flora and fauna, making it a special place to walk. The surroundings have an outworldly aura, as there are hundreds of ancient monuments, including 50+ ancient wine presses, from which it is said King Solomon drank his wine.

History and mythology is overwhelming here, as the island is part of ancient Lycia, where the enormous Cyclopes and flying Pegasus used to live.

Exclusive Meduseum Souvenirs

Shop unique products you won't find anywhere else, crafted exclusively for Meduseum visitors as memorable keepsakes. From easy to difficult, you can surely find the best choice for you! Outside the Meduseum, only big orders are accepted (in this case, shipping and handling fees also apply). Receipt or electronic invoice is provided.

See the Meduseum products section for a list of available puzzles.

Puzzles such as the boardgame puzzle "Medousa" (the spelling using an extra "u" is deliberate) and the "Medusa 3x3x3 cube" will amaze you!

Most puzzles have high educational value, as they are directly related to the content of school and/or academic books.

Medusa Mythology Experience

Explore the legend of Medusa through immersive storytelling and themed exhibits that bring the myth to life on Kastellorizo.

According to new archaeological research, Medusa lived in Kastellorizo. Aeschylus' quote "Gorgonian fields of Kisthene" combined with Strabo's report that "Kisthene is the largest island opposite Antiphellus" provide a solid and unmistaken argument regarding mythological Medusa's whereabouts.

As stated, the island is filled with extremely beautiful trails from the north to the south, from the east to the west. The wonderful view in the main photo is from a throne-like seat made of stone, which could have been the throne of Medusa.

In addition, there are a lot more historical sources which also converge to this fact. This is why the name "Meduseum" encompasses everything in one single name.

Just some piece of advice: When visiting Kastellorizo, never look into the eyes of a local. You never know whose descentant it can be!

Ranking on Tripadvisor

After being established, the Meduseum quickly climbed up as Tripadvisor's Nr 1 attraction on the island based on the ranking (i.e. 5/5). The same is true (again 5/5 ranking) on Google Maps, by simple searching "Meduseum".

Besides the ranking, the comments left by visitors reveal their amazement, while some of them have returned for more!

Meduseum logos for the Puzzle Festivals

Traditionally, the Meduseum offers a logo for each Puzzle Festival. Those logos usually stem from existing puzzles produced at the Meduseum. Those logos are:

  1. ΦΓ logo (2021 Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival)

  2. ΦΓ Letter Illusion (2022 Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival)

  3. Karagiozis (2022 Patras Puzzle Festival)

  4. Medusa (2022 Athens Puzzle Festival)

  5. Ostomachion (2023 Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival)

  6. Puzzle Bird (2024 Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival)

  7. Puzzle Bird (2025 Xanthi Puzzle Festival)

  8. Icarus Islands (2025 Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival)

Entering a New Dimension

The Meduseum is for everyone, young and old.

It reminds us of Plato's Cave allegory, where the person who freed his mind was not able to explain to the rest the beauty of what he saw and heard. Because the rest, denied the chance to understand new knowledge.

It is always hard to describe the feeling when a mind enters a new dimension. Which is the reason why the Meduseum cannot be explained in words or photos.

Someone needs to visit the Meduseum and engage in this interactive unknown - to most - world. And then, your mind will forever thank you!

Unlock mysteries where history and puzzles intertwine.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Megisti Puzzle Museum pays a tribute to an island where - according to mythology and new archaeological research - Medusa used to live in.

Aeschylus' quote "Gorgonian fields of Kisthene" combined with Strabo's report that "Kisthene is the largest island opposite Antiphellus" provide a solid and unmistaken argument regarding Medusa's whereabouts.

There are many more historical sources which also converge to this fact. This is why the name "Meduseum" encompasses everything in one single name.

Visitors can explore unique puzzle exhibits, interactive educational puzzles, and fascinating mechanical displays that engage and challenge the mind. It is an experience out of this world, a pleasant cultural shock, which lasts at least an hour, so be prepared!

No tickets, but booking is essential.

We recommend contacting us to book in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons or major events.

To avoid congestion and exhaustion, ONLY groups of 4-10 people are admitted. In the case there are less than four people, I can arrange (if possible) to merge with another group.

Tours may start from as early as sunrise until three hours before sunset.

Walk-ins are rarely possible, unless you are super lucky and there is a tour starting for another group, ensuring there is the correct total number of visitors.

There is no entrance fee and there is no requirement to buy anything. Just bring your smile!

Of course, if you wish, you may contribute/donate to the Meduseum (as there are many costs), or buy one or more puzzles.

The Meduseum is situated at the Chorafia area, behind the St George of Santrape Church, on the Greek island of Megisti, also known as Kastellorizo. It is the remote island where Medusa used to live.

The Meduseum offers a range of unique puzzles made by Pantazis Houlis, known as an Award Winner Lecturer (voted by students). They can be purchased during a visit/tour. However, when ordering from other places, we only send big orders usually more than 100 euros (e.g. for schools, institutions, etc).

In the past, we had never thought of creating puzzles due to (remote area) double postage fees, many and heavy tax fees, lack of storage space, and the fact that small productions are always very expensive. But due to popular demand for our exclusive and unique designs, we were "forced" to make some puzzles available.

All prices include 17% VAT and a receipt/invoice is sent. Other taxes (EFKA, Corporate Income, etc) are covered by the Meduseum.

When ordering from other places, shipping and handling fees apply. Also, since there are limited boat routes, expect extra delays (the island is too small for an organised e-shop).

International orders are also possible, with PayPal payments.
