My grandmother making dumplings - Despite fighting lung cancer over the last few years, she has never once refused to cook food and make dumplings for her family. Crowded but the best food you will ever eat. Very cheap, but the quality is unmatched. You get all types of people and it's so interesting. This will be some of the best food you eat

Affordable and delicious shop. Cash only and no frills.
They're famous for their peanut noodles, but I wasn't in the mood so I opted for the dumplings and fish ball soup. Both were pretty tasty and at the price point they were a steal! It's pretty fast from ordering to having the food ready and I appreciate they put a piece of cardboard on the bottom of the plastic bag to ensure the food stays level.
The shop itself was pretty empty when I went on a weekday, but I've walked by several times on the weekend and it can be a packed house.

This spot is certainly cozy and spacious. Bring your friends!!! There also seems to be a number of fan favorites available here. One of many includes the $3 wheat noodles with peanut butter sauce, which was served to me at lightning speed. I had the noodles in my hands before I could look down to check in on Yelp.
As the name would suggest, the noodles are quite heavy on the peanut butter flavor. For that reason, this is really for those who are into that kind of dance. I found it particularly enjoyable: smooth, rich, and works well with the noodles. However, the flavor on its own does get a bit flat especially considering the mundane nature of the noodles themselves. They have hot sauce available on hand at every time, so I'd recommend a couple squirts of that if you're looking for more salt or a spicier kick.
For the price, these noodles do their job and then some. Come try them out for sure.

Ever since Lam Zhou closed around the early pandemic, I've been at a loss for where to stock up on frozen dumplings. Shu Jiao Fu Zhou seems like the next best thing in Manhattan Chinatown. That said, if anyone else has tips for the Lan Zhou-style thin-skinned dumplings, please give me a holler.
I only just discovered that SJFZ also delivers to my apartment building! This is a game changer. Not having to coordinate my Chinatown trips to conclude at SJFZ in order to bring frozen dumplings back home immediately is a dramatic improvement in my quality of life.
My personal fave is their pork and chive dumplings, but I won't say no to any of the dishes on their menu. I'll also always order their peanut noodles, although I'll admit that I learned how to make a better version from a cooking class in La Jolla several years back and could confidently outshine theirs if I put in the work. Then again, for $4 for a mound of noodles, you kinda get more than what you pay for, compared to the outrageously priced dan dan noodles at any given Szechuan restaurant around town.
Dollar for dollar, SJFZ definitely packs a punch. Until someone educates me otherwise, I foresee this being my new go-to dumpling joint.
Unrelated: does anyone actually know the translation of this place? I asked my parents, and their reaction was basically, "those characters strung together are gibberish." I think we then looked at their signage and the characters don't match up with Shu Jiao Fu Zhou, either.

Food (4 stars): This place is sooo freaking cheap! $3 for 6 dumplings; $3 for fish ball soup, and $3 for peanut noodles! I like to buy 50 frozen dumplings (pork and chives) because it's only $12!!! Can't beat that price!

I went from "never been" to visiting this shop close to two times a month. I don't go to the city often but I realize tht every time I do, I find myself wanting to grab a quick bite from here! Dumplings are nice and juicy and my favorite here is their peanut noodle! I can maybe eat 3 orders of it in one go l if I must! I tried their wonton soup here but didn't enjoy it much.
Will be back for more dumplings and peanut noodles though!

This is definitely by far my most absolutely favorite dumpling and soup shop in all of Lower East Side/Chinatown if not all of Manhattan. Bet you money that it's really cheap in price, fulfilling, healthy and super delicious! Cheap as in you can literally get 3 dishes under $10 as dinner. Crazy though right?!?
My favorite things to order:
1. Pork & Chive Dumplings [Small Order of 6 Dumplings] - 豬肉韭菜水餃 [小份] ~ $3
2. Wheat Noodles w/ Peanut Butter Sauce (拌面) - $3
3. Fish Ball Soup [Small Order] - 魚丸湯 - $3
Everything's usually freshly made right on the spot. Love that I usually order several things so that I get to try a little bit of everything when ordering. Pork & Chives is the most popular dumpling flavor at this Chinese eatery. The fishballs are so soft in texture, the meatball in the middle tastes very flavorful and tender. It's considered as lean meat as there's not too much fat inside. The soup tastes fresh. Wheat noodles are very chewy in texture, just the way I tend to like it. The peanut sauce doesn't make it too heavy.
Fast service from friendly staff. You can usually get your food in less than 5 minutes. Ambiance wise is your typical no-frills kind of eat-and-go place. There's a neutral-gender restroom that you need to ask for a key in order to use it. There're several outlets on the wall to charge your phone.
You can use their vinegar, soy sauce and sriracha to create your own sauce. I usually just do that. They provide disposable utensils (chopsticks, plastic forks and spoons) on each of the tables. Tend to be difficult at times to grab a seat during rush hours like lunchtime and dinner time. So, definitely be prepared to play musical chairs with other customers!
Very glad this place is so close by the B and D trains, so there's actually a lot of business within the locals, foreigners and tourists.

The pork and chive dumplings were where it's at. For $4.50, you can get a large plate of boiled pork and chive dumplings here. I think I counted 12 dumplings, which is such a great deal. The dumpling wrapper was everything. Nice and translucent thin, with a great texture and mouthfeel. The pork and chive filling, however, was kind of mild for my taste, but overall it was still pretty good. We also ordered their wheat noodles with peanut sauce. But, the peanut sauce didn't have as much peanut flavor as I'd like.
It is cash only here. So, be aware. One other thing is I think they diluted all of their sauces. I would say bring your own hot sauce. I think we brought our Tabasco Scorpion hot sauce to eat with our dumplings here. Yummy.
