Here we learned how to make traditional Chinese dumplings from scratch. Our group of around 16 people each had a task to do and it was an assembling line for dumpling production. A beautiful procedure leading to a delicious product.

This was a very tiny market on a short street or alley in China.  It was close to closing time.  The many items made for an interesting clash of aromas.

This meal is a traditional breakfast in China. The noodles are mixed with a variety of toppings including scrambled eggs, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, beef, and others. Not your pancakes and easy-over eggs but truly very delicious.

My grandmother making dumplings - Despite fighting lung cancer over the last few years, she has never once refused to cook food and make dumplings for her family. In some Asian cultures, including China, it is tradition to hold a dumpling feast when you are sending off a family member or dear friend (noodle feast for arrival/welcome). I will always remember the hundreds (if not, thousands) of dumplings I have eaten just hours before my flights leaving home.
