MOZILLA'S REBRAND TO STAND OUT
Turns out that the non-profit tech giant had partnered with the world famous brand JKR -> (Jones Knowles Ritchie) to give themselves a fresh new look and as the company says 'Not just a rebrand, but setting the foundation for the next 25 years of tech.'
MOZILLA'S REBRAND
Let's see what happened.
Ever heard of Firefox?, the browser that seems to be the only real alternative to Google's Chrome and its other popular derivatives like Microsoft Edge, Brave Browser, Opera, Vivaldi, and a whole lot more?
Firefox, as Mozilla says is 'THE ONLY REAL ALTERNATIVE' to Google Chrome and similar browsers.
This may come to no surprise, as, Mozilla is the maker of Firefox, and its obvious that a company would promote their product as the best.
But, as we come to see in this article, that what they're saying is sort of true.
See, there are two kinds of software,
Closed Source
Open Source
Let's dive into the basic definition of each one.
Open Source
This means that the code of the software made is available to the public with various permissions. Typically a permission to view, fork (copy and make your own version), and propose changes and participation in certain things is allowed.
Developers around the world come together to make something better than what a company could ever try to do. Its like you have all the brains in the world collaborating to help you on your journey.
There's some serious money that can be made with this kind of approach as well. A video from TechAltar -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw-XYrMFb0A supports the claim that Mozilla has enough money to continue their operations for 3 whole years even if they suddenly stopped making money, which is something that you can't laugh at!
Other projects like KDE and Thunderbird -> (Thunderbird is also a part of Mozilla [Its an email client]) reported that they've gotten a significant rise in funding through donations, simply because they asked users to donate.
Closed Source
Let's see what happens here.
The company has full rights over the software they make. Most of the time, it's okay if it's a reputable company, if it's a shady one, then they could put a virus or something not good and even get away.
Big Tech opts for this.
Employees of these companies are disgusted on how much user data these companies take. Mozilla says it doesn't need to be that way.
Mozilla says they're running campaigns on tech and AI that's responsible, despite layoffs in the advocating part of Mozilla staff, it seems that they're still trying to hold companies accountable. And focusing on Firefox, as it's their strength.
But, the problem is that not many people even know what a web browser is, the obvious solution to this problem is to simply get more people onboard. But, it isn't always simple.
Despite this, the company has decided for a facelift and hope that Laura Chambers, THE CEO, leads them in the right direction. Which amidst the recent controversial decisions, Mozilla seems to be heading in the right direction and there's more to come.
