The Pleiades cluster of stars covers an area about four times the apparent size of the full moon. This is a reflection nebula, where the light from hot blue stars is reflected by interstellar dust. The two bright stars on the left side of the image are Atlas and Pleione, the parents in Greek mythology of seven sisters forming the nine brightest stars in this cluster. The name Pleiades indicates the sisters are daughters of Pleione. The cluster is 440 light years from the solar system.
This image consists of a stack of 23 exposures of 20 seconds each using the Pentax Astrotracer function.

$I took this astrophotograph of the Seven Sisters, a.k.a. the Pleiades open star cluster and reflection nebula from my balcony in Mountain View, CA, using a Esprit 120ed refractor telescope, a cooled QHY600 monochrome camera with LRGB filters, and about 8 hours of stacked 60s subframes.$

This picture of the Pleiades, also known as M45, was taken from the centre of Copenhagen in bortle 9 skies. The bortle scale runs from 0-9 and estimates the impact city lights has on the visibility of the night sky.

To get a good picture in these conditions a light pollution filter was used to amass a total of 300minute exposure time.

M45 is one of the only deep sky objects that we can see with the naked eye from all ranges of the bortle scale. It's distance from Earth is a mere 440 light years This telescope and tracker was used: William Optics z61 + Skywatcher Star Adventurer
