End Of The Road For Cavan In 2025
A nine point defeat in Killarney to The Kingdom on Saturday ended Cavan’ season for 2025. A David Clifford masterclass with a personal tally of 3-7 resulted in a disappointing, but inevitable result in Killarney.
Cavan started off quite poorly with a number of simple errors and Carolan struggled to contain Clifford in attack, he would get a black card that made the task even harder and before too long Kerry had a substantial lead coming into half time, just before it though, Paddy Lynch knocked over a delicious two pointer into the wind and it had some to spare leaving the scoreline slight more appealing, 2-12 to 0-08.
Kerry were goal hungry, aiming to extinguish any hope a comeback early on and they were going for the jugular. They knocked over a few points and were comfortably sailing to a quarter final, but an Evan Crowe goal sixteen minutes into the second half began a short resurgence from the Breffni men.
Points from Faulkner, Kiernan (2 pointer) & O’Neill narrowed the gap even further, at one stage it was just four points. A couple of magnificent 2 pointers from Lynch kept Cavan within touching distance, but a Clifford goal with about 10 minutes to go halted Cavan’ run and knocked the wind out of their sails for good.
Kerry ran out winners by 9 points and as a result, ended Cavan’ mixed 2025 season. Some highs, some lows and a very mixed bag for the senior team this year. I can imagine their will be a few stepping away from the panel come 2026 and our youth will have to take the reigns and lead from here on.
I just want to say thank you to all who follow us on our social media, it is a great privilege to follow these lads and I hope we continue building into next year. I’ll be focusing some on the upcoming club championship when it rolls around.
Up Cavan!
