Our Maintenance Services

Basura Area Management

Efficient collection and disposal of trash maintains cleanliness and environmental responsibility. We work together with the community and our partners to manage the basura area in Chan Chemuyil, and to provide the folks in the neighborhood with the information they need to properly recycle what they can.

  • Glass - not recyclable from CC, place in the garbage

  • Aluminum - goes in the dedicated bin

  • Cardboard and other non-food waste - in the unlidded garbage bins

  • Food waste - in the lidded bins. Keep the lids CLOSED please

RECYCLING is held the last Friday of every month in Chemuyil, Akumal and other locations. Some more information from the Centro Communitario in Chemuyil.

Street and Tope Maintenance

Ensuring the street and topes are well maintained, including the section of Mexicana at the entrance to CC streets. Tope painting, vegetation removal and trimming, minor pothole repairs help keep the streets useable.

Major street repairs, including lighting, are outside of the HMG mandate - our involvement is in reporting issues and following up with the delegado in Chemuyil for their resolution.

Common Area Upkeep

Timely trimming of vegetation and upkeep of shared facilities and areas to preserve their quality and usability. Includes the fencing and grassy areas around two cenotes, the fencing and grassy area of the vacant lot, the shelving, lighting, books, games and puzzles in the library, the areas around the basura walls and bodega, and more.

Sometimes we paint over graffiti, repaint the policia caseta, and other common area initiatives that are not regular maintenance, and we take them on with enthusiasm!

Free Lending Library

We have a lending library that has books, puzzles, games and more, at the bottom of calle Belize next to the water treatment post.

Keys are in the lockbox on the wall, code is the last 4 digits of our postal code. Residents may borrow or keep books for beach days, the journey home, bedtime reading...

We take donations and ask that you kindly leave ONLY books and puzzles in excellent useable condition. No torn covers, moldy pages or missing pieces please! :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Join the CCHMG-the fee is minimal and makes a big difference. The bigger our budget, the more projects we can undertake

Volunteer for the CCHMG-run for a Board position when they come open, or just offer your time to help with library, neighborhood upkeep, etc.

Make a motion/suggestion-share ideas of your own that you'd like to see come to life! Not everything is within our maintenance mandate, and the ideas that are outside of our mandate, we encourage people to take on themselves.

Necessary forms are on the CCHMG Facebook page. There are nomination forms if you want to run for a position, and motion forms to make suggestions for projects. You don't need to submit the form itself, just make sure that the relevant info from the form is in your email to us.

The guidelines are hosted on the CCHMG Facebook page.

As individuals, the Board members do get involved with local activities like the garage sale, Christmas for the kids, Beach clean-ups etc. HOWEVER, as a group, the HMG does not. This ensures that the funds we collect are spent on maintenance only.

We try to keep food-containing bins CLOSED AND COVERED to minimize wild animals (raccoons, snakes, rats). Bins without lids should be used for cardboard and other non-food items.

Construction materials cannot be left at the basura area. Your contractor should make arrangements to dispose of it properly (NOT by dumping it in the jungle)

Old appliances cannot be left at the basura area (fridges, water tanks, air conditioners, bbqs etc.) There are scrap dealers that come around the community fairly regularly and it has been our experience that they will pick up from you directly at your door when they come.

A water truck selling bottled water comes around twice per week, usually Wednesday and Saturday mornings. You can order online, or just flag them down.

Gas deliveries you can order online, or just flag them down if a neighbor has ordered. It's often a good idea to ask on FB for contact info and if anyone else is ordering.

During high season, we have many services coming around. Seafood on Sundays, plants randomly, fruit and veg randomly, sometimes even ice cream and snacks!

Pizza made right in CC can be ordered from Myrna, La Celeste pizza. Check the FB page for details.

We have a welder in the community, and diving instructors and tour guides and many others services - ask on the FB page and you may be surprised!!
