Deenabandhu is not only educating children, but is also shaping their lives. After the education, these children should be able to occupy responsible positions in the society and should be able to contribute the fruits of their knowledge to the society.

“Deenabandhu” What a sweet name! This place is not just a lifeline for the needy, but also for many of us who come to get a glimpse of the innocence of children. This lifeline is none other than our beloved Jayanna. It is hard to come back once we step in there and look at the sparkle in the children’s eyes. The place has such energy. Following the morning prayers, the children take their plates and sit for breakfast with discipline. After the food is served, they take a moment for a prayer before eating. Then, they neatly clean their plates, return them to their spot, before running off to the next activity. In turns, the children tidy up the dining area, sweeping and mopping it. Then, they go to study, play and so on. Seeing these little disciplined children, one can’t help but feel like giving something of ourselves. We can tell a story, teach them to sing and dance, to play, to paint or do crafts etc. It is a place where we can pass on what we know, something the children will remember for long. “Deenabandhu” is my favourite place and dear to me. It fills me with pride to see that the children who have grown up here have pursued diverse careers and built their futures. My heartfelt wish is for “Deenabandhu” to become a guiding light for many more children in the years to come.

“ದೀನಬಂಧು” ಎಂಥಾ ಮುದ್ದಾದ ಹೆಸರು? ಈ ದೀನಬಂಧು ಬರೀ ದೀನರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೇತುವೆ ಅಲ್ಲ, ನಮ್ಮಂತ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮುಗ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿ ಬೆಸೆಯುವ ಒಂದು ಸೇತು. ಒಂಥರ ಈ ಸೇತು ಮತ್ತಾರು ಅಲ್ಲ ಅವರೇ ನಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಜಯಣ್ಣ... ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಆ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಆ ಮುಗ್ಧ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ಮಿಂಚಿನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು ಮರಳಿ ಬರಲು ಆಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅಂಥಾ ಒಂದು ಶಕ್ತಿ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇದೆ... ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ನಂತರ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ತಟ್ಟೆ ಹಿಡಿದು ತಿಂಡಿ, ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕೂರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಬಡಿಸಿದಾದ ನಂತರ ಅನ್ನ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ದೈವಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಿಸಿ, ಉಂಡ ನಂತರ ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ತಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಸ್ವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟು ಮುಂದಿನ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಓಟ. ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಸರದಿಯಂತೆ ಉಂಡ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ ಗುಡಿಸಿ - ವರೆಸಿ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಂತರ ಓದು ಆಟ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ. ಇಂಥಾ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ನಮಗೂ ಈ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಏನಾದರೂ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬೇಕು ಎನಿಸದೇ ಬಿಡದು... ಏನಾದರೊಂದು ಕತೆ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು, ಹಾಡು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಡಬಹುದು ನೃತ್ಯ, ಆಟ, ಪೇಯಿಂಟಿಗ್, ಕ್ರಾöಫ್ಟ್ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ. ಹೀಗೆ ನಿಮಗೆ / ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವ, ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಬಹಳ ಕಾಲದವರೆಗೂ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿನಲ್ಲಿಡುವ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ ಬರಬಹುದು ಅಂಥಾ ಜಾಗ. ನನಗೆ ಅಚ್ಚು-ಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಬಹಳ ಪ್ರಿಯವಾದ ಜಾಗ “ದೀನಬಂಧು” ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮುಂದೆ ಬಹಳ ಒಳ್ಳೊಳ್ಳೆ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಕೂಡ ಹೋಗಿ ಬದುಕು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಅನಿಸುತ್ತೆ ಅಲ್ವೆ. ಈ “ದೀನಬಂಧು” ಹೀಗೆ ನೂರುಕಾಲ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ದಾರಿ ದೀಪವಾಗಿರಲಿ ಎಂದು ಹೃದಯ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ಹಾರೈಸುವ.
