Portraits painted with care, presence, and enduring character.
I create thoughtful, considered portraits in water-based oils, capturing the character, relationships, and quiet presence of my subjects. Each work is approached with care and patience, intended to endure for generations.

About the Artist
I have spent my working life as a professional graphic designer, learning how images communicate, how colour carries emotion, and how composition shapes meaning.
In recent years, I chose to step away from commercial work to focus on portrait painting — a slower, more personal form of looking.
Working with high-quality water-based oils, I paint from life wherever possible, allowing time for observation and conversation to inform the finished work. These oils offer the richness and texture of traditional oils with a safer, more eco-friendly approach, and when cared for appropriately, the finished work is durable and long-lasting.
I am drawn to the quiet complexity of faces: the marks of experience, character, and inner presence that emerge when someone is truly seen.
Now based in North Cornwall, my practice is influenced by natural light, stillness, and the discipline of careful looking. Each painting is made slowly and deliberately, with the aim of creating a truthful, lasting record of a person at a particular mo
Portrait Commissions
Individual Portraits:
A considered portrait of a single sitter, painted in water-based oils from my own photography. Each portrait focuses on presence, character, and quiet expression, developed through an unhurried process of observation and refinement. Animals may be included where they form part of the sitter’s life or story.
Family & Group Portraits:
Family and group portraits are approached with the same care and attention as individual works. The emphasis is on relationship, presence, and balance within the composition.
Children are painted with sensitivity and patience. Animals may be included where appropriate.
These portraits are intended as lasting heirlooms — capturing the quiet connections and character of the family for generations to come.

How Commissions Work
Initial Meeting
Each commission begins with an informal meeting. This is an opportunity to get to know one another, discuss the kind of portrait you are looking for, and consider where the finished painting will be displayed.Agreement & Deposit
Once the details are agreed, a simple written agreement is provided and a deposit is taken to secure the commission.Home Photo Session
I then conduct a relaxed photo session in your home, using natural light wherever possible. Following the session, I present a selection of recommended images. Together, we agree on the pose and composition that will form the basis of the painting.Painting Stage
The painting process typically takes up to six weeks. Water-based oils allow me to create nuanced, vibrant colour without strong fumes, making sittings and studio visits more comfortable. Clients are kept informed at key stages and are invited to share their thoughts as the painting progresses, ensuring the final work feels both truthful and considered.Completion & Approval
