Levera Wetlands represent one of the island's most critical and diverse ecosystems. Spanning approximately 518 hectares, this site was designated in 2012 as Grenada’s only Ramsar Site—a recognition of its status as a wetland of international importance. The area is a unique mosaic of habitats, featuring a 23-acre brackish pond (set within the caldera of an ancient volcano), lush mangrove forests containing red, black, and white species, and a pristine beach that serves as the third-largest nesting ground for endangered Leatherback sea turtles in the Caribbean
