memories from world festival of youth and students

Organization Background

After the attainment of independence in 1961, the founding father of the nation of Tanzania, Julius Kambarage Nyerere, launched the war against the country’s three major enemies—poverty, ignorance, and diseases. While there has been relative progress and a persistent decline in poverty, no enemy has been defeated to date. Tanzania still suffers from high levels of poverty, widespread disease, poor education, and lack of inclusive sustainable development.

The dearth of accessible, cost-effective, and empowering basic and higher quality education for the majority of the population, particularly in light of pervasive poverty, limited access to essential healthcare, and corruption, significantly contributes to an environment that does not sufficiently equip individuals, families, and communities, especially those in rural areas constituting approximately three-quarters of the population, to achieve their full potential and envision a trajectory of inclusive sustainable development, economic expansion, and prosperity.

These interconnected challenges are further compounded by deeply embedded harmful and antiquated social norms that impede the realization of equitable educational opportunities and, consequently, perpetuate cycles of socioeconomic disparity.

The Foundation for Economics and Development Affairs (FEDA) was founded in response to these human developmental issues and constraints, with the goal of pursuing simple, innovative solutions for inclusive, sustainable development. The Foundation for Economics and Development Affairs (FEDA), with its headquarters in Mbeya City, was informally established in 2018. In 2019, the foundation was officially registered as a non-governmental organization in Tanzania.

Since its inception, FEDA has focused on empowering local communities through education, vocational training, and sustainable economic practices. By fostering partnerships with various stakeholders, the foundation aims to create lasting change and improve the quality of life for those it serves.
