Examples of Vermont municipalities owning former church buildings include the Richmond Round Church in Richmond, VT (built 1812–1813 and now town-owned and used for civic and historic purposes) and the Ripton Community House in Ripton, VT (originally the 1864 Congregational church, later deeded to the town and now used as a community hall). In both cases, the buildings had ceased functioning as active churches before becoming municipal property.
