Embracing Rinzai Zen in Western Colorado
There has been a Rinzai Zen presence in Grand Junction since the 1970s. Our current iteration grew out the Dharma Mountain Zen Center. This Center closed in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, after two years of virtual sits, we began meeting regularly at the home of one of our members. We met on Sundays from 9-11 during the school year, and during the summers we practiced at a local park near downtown Grand Junction.
In summer 2026, Dharma Mountain reopened as Heki Un Zan Hogaku-ji. Our group continued to meet at the park through the summer, and then decided collectively to meet on Sundays at Dharma Mountain and Wednesdays at Foxtail Zendo, which is also Andy's den.
Our practice is rooted in the tradition of Rinzai Zen in the style of Myoshinji, shared with us by various teachers.
Are you interested in practicing meditation in a supportive, community atmosphere? Come join us! Please email me, Andy, at keionandy@proton.me if you have any questions or would like to learn more, including the address of the homes where we practice.
