Our Parkinson's Buddy Program offers one-on-one connections, to first year medical students develop empathy, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of patient-centered care — encouraging future careers in neurology and movement disorders while helping address the growing shortage of movement disorder specialists.
At the same time, the program provides individuals living with Parkinson’s an opportunity for companionship, connection, and meaningful engagement while navigating a disease that can often feel isolating and lonely.

Who can participate in the Buddy Program?
The program is open to First Year Medical Students and individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and their care partners who are seeking support and connection with others who understand their experiences.
However, if there is no local Medical school in your area, this program is transferable to other programs like Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy etc.
How are buddies matched with participants?
Buddies are matched based on factors such as similar experiences, interests, and needs to ensure meaningful and supportive connections.
Can care partners participate in the Buddy Program?
Care partners play an important role in the Buddy Program and are encouraged to participate alongside their loved one. They are included in the connection, conversations, and support provided through the buddy match, and often benefit from shared experiences, encouragement, and access to resources.
