Is Diabetes Really an Illness? Insights from 30 Years of Personal Experience

Understanding Diabetes Beyond the Diagnosis

Diabetes is often labeled simply as an illness, but through my 30 years of living with type 1 diabetes, I have come to see it as a manageable condition rather than a defining ailment. At age 81, being insulin-dependent and maintaining stable glycemia has shown me that diabetes does not have to dictate the quality or length of life. With careful management and lifestyle choices, it is possible to live well without severe complications.

My Journey and Discoveries in Diabetes Management

Over the decades, I have remained free from common diabetes-related complications such as kidney, retina, macula, optic nerve, and feet affections. This has been possible through diligent monitoring, adapting to new information, and embracing a proactive approach to health. My experience underscores the importance of personalized care, consistent insulin management, and regular health checks to maintain stability and prevent damage.
