A Unique Artistic Process Between Past and Present

When I paint, I move beyond the present moment. My work draws from both ancient imagery and emerging forms, blending memory, instinct, and observation. Fossils, corals, and fluid structures appear throughout my paintings, suggesting an underlying world shaped by time and transformation.

Light plays a central role in my work. It filters through the composition like sunlight through water—gradually fading into deeper layers, revealing textures, rhythms, and hidden forms...

My paintings reflect the continuous cycle of life: growth, decay, and renewal. Like a falling leaf spiraling toward the ground, each element transforms, nourishing what comes next.

When contemporary art — here, oil painting on canvas — engages with an imagined world, it reveals an ancient necessity resurfacing here and there across Time, with the painting acting as both map and compass:

An oil-on-canvas painting like a fishing scene or a landscape of nature, a cavalcade within a rich and colorful biome that reveals depths and life in its full cycle to anyone willing to dive into it. Like a window opened by the contemporary painter from Nantes; like an invitation to turn inward and descend into the depths of the imagination, accessible just beneath the surface of things...

When I paint my works, I ride beyond the present, under ancient skies, where forms to come dance with forms that have been. Fossils appear, corals and shoals of reflections from an underlying world, streaked with flashes from the surface of the sun, which gradually spreads,
until it is lost in a step-by-step descent, like the spiral of a leaf plunging to the ground and farther still into the collapse of its nourishing withering toward revitalizing humus, only to be reborn later in the most beautiful seasons in the form of a flower, a tree, or a bright silver fish...

A descent followed by a rise back toward our surface,
like a present moment briefly embodied in a horizontality of the compossible, then layered by multiple shifts like those reflections upon the waves of the World. Beneath: all hopes, all desires that drive us toward a better future or a fine harvest. Oil painting as a true sedimentation of ancient dreams that came before us; like this horse below and above... petrified in its run, unearthed during the making of the backgrounds for a triptych directly on a superb beach, on our beautiful coast of France in Morbihan. Incredible and true.

I paint only in the moment when I feel that something must be said about our World, favoring the intensity of a true encounter with... the great mystery of painting; and of the instant within this miracle of the present. The encounter takes place every time and continues as if frozen in a “born-instant,” a strange artifact with multiple purposes depending on the viewers...

I cannot resist repeating it: it is the unveiling of what is hidden into the visible, where sky and Earth intertwine, lowering and lifting one another in order to embrace through an ancient and fertile effort; it is the hard and the ineffable, the uncertain and the concrete; motionless movements where light plays so much that the eye can no longer follow it and synthesizes as best it can this great magic.
To try to render this, humbly, is to paint.

Yes, this “pre-possession of the visible,” this “art of questioning it according to one’s wishes,” as Merleau-Ponty describes it, brings us closer and makes us turn back toward what constitutes us and what lies before us and in what we evolve: the great and beautiful song of the World. Let us care for it and see it.
