I am a Dublin-based artist with a background in sketching and drawing but now working across a wide range of media that includes paint, pencil, chalk pastels and more recently, ceramics.
A deep love of nature and the many personal photographs and memories of family holidays in the west of Ireland has provided endless inspiration. Time spent exploring beaches and sand dunes, and in the surrounding fields and bogs of the countryside continue to influence and inform how I see and feel the landscape in both colour and texture.
My process begins by immersing myself in nature, taking photographs, and transferring my ideas with simple sketches. The initial drawings with a focus on black-and-white lines and mark-making become a starting point for more detailed works but can often become finished pieces themselves.
From the fluidity of pencils and chalks to the tactile, cold, malleable clay, the subject matter often informs the medium I choose to reflect my work. The discovery of new perspectives and forms of inspiration in the ever-changing landscape is a great source of joy and satisfaction.
