Larrea Press Sustainability Statement
Larrea Press is committed to publishing in ways that help reduce environmental impact. We use print-on-demand to meet reader demand without large print runs or excess inventory. Printing in shorter runs helps reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and minimize energy use across the production process.
We also prioritize using materials that impose a lighter impact on the environment. We encourage paper sourced from well-managed forests and expect our suppliers to avoid harvesting from endangered old growth forests, forests of exceptional conservation value, and the Amazon Basin.
To reduce packaging waste and landfill use, we use recycled shipping materials and reuse previously used shipping materials whenever available. We recycle returns that cannot be resold.
To further reduce emissions, we use an all-electric vehicle (EV) to deliver books and for transportation during author tours, which helps to dramatically lower our greenhouse gas emissions.
Larrea Press is also rooted in conservation on the ground. Our business location is a designated Pollinator Sanctuary—pesticide-free—with extensive pollinator habitat (including milkweed for feeding the endangered monarch butterfly) and large organic vegetable gardens.
We share the responsibility to protect this world and continuously work to improve our processes and choose production methods that support a more sustainable future for our planet.
Respect for native peoples
Larrea Press acknowledges that our work takes place on the traditional lands of the
Confederated Tribes of WarmSprings, including the Wasco, Paiute, and other Northern
Paiute peoples.
Larrea Press is 50 percent-owned and actively managed by Janet Huerta, whose grandmother was 100% Apache from Casa Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. (Huerta is not an enrolled member of a Tribe in the US nor in Mexico.) Huerta and co-owner Michael Cooper respect, honor, and promote Indigenous sovereignty and the ongoing relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land, waters, and life that sustain us all. We commit to listening to, learning from, and amplifying Indigenous voices, and to supporting a more just and sustainable future for all.
