Exploring Religion, Leadership, and Culture at Athens State University
Expertise in Religious Studies and Leadership
At Athens State University's Religious Studies Department, we study how faith and meaning shape societies, institutions, and individual lives — across traditions, cultures, and centuries. Our faculty specialize in a range of religious traditions, ethical leadership, and cultural studies, bringing that expertise into the classroom through rigorous coursework and into the community through research and public engagement. The result is an education that treats religion not as a subject to observe from a distance, but as a lens for understanding how the world actually works.
The Coleman Center: Where Religion, Leadership, and Culture Meet
The Coleman Center of Religion, Leadership, and Culture is where that work becomes interdisciplinary. It brings together scholars, students, and community leaders around a shared question: what does faith-informed leadership actually look like in practice? Through public lectures, workshops, and ongoing research initiatives, the Center creates space for dialogue between religious studies and the fields it touches — leadership, ethics, cultural change — making it a natural hub for anyone thinking seriously about the intersection of belief and public life.
Multimedia Content for a Broader Audience
That conversation doesn't stay confined to campus. Through blogs, videos, and podcasts, we extend the Department's and the Center's work to anyone curious about religion's role in contemporary leadership and culture — students and educators, but also anyone outside a classroom looking for grounded perspective rather than punditry. New content is added regularly, so there's always a way back in.
