The black-tailed deer, a subspecies of mule deer, is native to the Pacific Northwest and thrives in the diverse ecosystems of Olympic National Park, Washington. Recognizable by their distinctive black tail and large ears, these deer are most active during dawn and dusk, often seen grazing in meadows or foraging in the park's dense forests. They are highly adaptable, inhabiting areas ranging from coastal rainforests to alpine regions. Black-tailed deer play a vital role in the park’s ecosystem, serving as prey for predators such as cougars and coyotes.
