Sgiath: The Warrior Queen's Saga

Born To Destiny

Truth and Legend are a brother and a sister who walk the paths of time. Long ago, they journeyed through the Western Isles of Scotland to the Isle Of Shadow; the Isle Of Skye; An t-Eilean Sgitheanach.

There, on a wild storm darkened night, a baby was born, with the flashing of lightning and crashing of thunder, perhaps portents of doom. The mother and attendants were afraid, with the dangers of childbirth and the threat of the storm, and they prayed for safe deliverance of the child.

The Old Grey Wizard had dreamed of a destiny for a queen and, guided to that place, he offered his blessing to the newborn baby girl as she cried out for life. The storm calmed and the first light of dawn pushed back the darkness. The people were thankful as the Wizard explained the storm to be a sign of great things to come. He proclaimed the baby girl as the child of the God of War, destined to be Sgiath, Queen of Skye.

The baby girl prospered with the love and care of her mother for three years. Then the Wizard returned, and offered to take her travelling, to learn all she would need to know, to achieve her destiny. The mother was sad to see her child go but also proud that she was born for a great purpose and would learn and grow with the teachings of the Wise Man.

Sgiath travelled through the moors and glens of Skye with the Old Grey Wizard for many years. She learned science and magic, politics and martial arts under the tutelage of the Wizard with many other helpers along the way. The training could be arduous but Sgiath was strong and resilient and would never yield to any hardship or turn away from any challenge. There were good times too, with ceilidh’s and wine with friends along the way, as well as frequent visits back to Sgiath’s mother to let her see her child grow and prosper.

When Sgiath came of age, she journeyed down into the earth in ancient deep tunnels which led to small underground caves, carved out by peoples long before. As tides rose, the caves flooded with water and only through Sgiath’s strength and skill, acquired through her training, did she survive to emerge from the tunnels, reborn as a young woman, ready to seek her destiny as a great warrior queen.
