Welcome to St Michael & All Angels

A Bible‑based parish church serving Lower Sydenham and beyond.

St Michael & All Angels is a Church of England parish rooted in Scripture and open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. As a parish, we are a blend of the traditional and the contemporary, seeking in both our worship and our common life to express and share God’s love for everyone. We warmly welcome all, regardless of age, ethnicity, background, or where you are on your journey of faith.

Together, we seek the fullness of life offered through Jesus Christ — His death and resurrection bring forgiveness of sins, new life, and restoration to all who come to Him. Through the blood of Jesus, we are washed clean and made new. Our congregation is a rich mixture of people: some confident and established in faith, others exploring faith while carrying questions and doubts.

We value honesty, curiosity, and openness, and we encourage one another to explore faith together, trusting that God continues to meet us and, at times, surprise us. Knowing ourselves to be deeply loved by God, we are committed to sharing our faith with others and working for peace, justice, compassion, and hope in our local community and beyond.

Children, Youth & Families

Children and young people are a valued and cherished part of our church family. Our youth and children’s ministry continues to grow, supported by committed and gifted leaders.

  • Young people regularly participate and help lead worship

  • Sunday School and youth‑focused activities support faith development

  • The Young People’s Pizza Club provides space for fellowship, discussion, and belonging

Captured in a metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia primary school, seated amongst his classmates, this photograph depicts a young African-American schoolboy who was in the process of drawing with a pencil on a piece of white paper. Note that the student was focused on a drawing book that referenced fantasy flying planes, while intent on creating his artwork, seemingly oblivious to all the classroom goings-on that surrounded him. It is important to know that objects, including pencils, crayons, paper, etc., are known as fomites, and can act as transmitters of illnesses.

Church & School Partnership

St Michael’s Church enjoys a strong, positive, and well‑established partnership with St Michael’s School, which is central to our parish mission. This partnership is characterised by mutual trust, shared worship, prayer, and ongoing collaboration, supporting the spiritual, educational, and pastoral wellbeing of the whole school community.
