Zoe is a homemade robot.

Zoe was built over several years, by an old man in his basement workshop. I AM NOT SELLING ANYTHING. I'm just providing free information to people that wish to build their own robots.

There is no Step-by-Step Guide to Assembling Your First Homemade Robot

Zoe's pictures and text descriptions are meant to inspire other "Robot Makers". Essential Tips for Smooth Assembly. During assembly, it’s important to work in a well-organized space with good lighting. Use tools like soldering irons and multimeters safely and accurately. Programming your robot’s microcontroller requires a basic understanding of coding, so start with simple scripts that control movement or sensor readings. Regularly refer to datasheets and online tutorials to troubleshoot and optimize your design. Don’t hesitate to join robotics forums or local maker communities for support and inspiration – collaboration often leads to innovative solutions.

Zoe's Main Parts

These are the parts that I used in Zoe. Before you build a robot, get prices for these components , to get an estimate on how much this project will cost you. Of course, You don't have to use any of these parts, if you don't want to. You may be able to find alternate parts for less money. Zoe's latest info is at ZoeTheRobot.COM You will need skills in computer programming and mechanics. Maybe a little engineering as well. I use Windows, but you might prefer Linux. I program in Visual Basic dot NET, but you may like Python or some other language. I use Microsoft SQL, however there are other databases available, like My-SQL.

Crafting Zoe The Robot’s Unique Personality

Zoe's personality comes from her custom built, on-board ( No cloud connection needed) chat bot. Zoe's chat bot is based loosely on AIML Zoe currently uses Microsoft Voice Access for her "Speech Recognition" ( Speech-to-Text) [ Her older videos show her using "Dragon Speech Recognition ] When you talk with Zoe, she can tell if you are asking a question, or giving her a command. If you've asked a question, she will search her database for a list of possible responses. If you give her a command, she will execute some code to complete the command. All of these "command subroutines must be hard coded to have Zoe perform the proper actions Zoe does NOT use an LLM (Large Language Model) to generate her output. She only says what she is programmed to say, and not spout any hallucinations. This is good if you know exactly what you want her to say, like to describe some product that you sell. The challenge with this method is that you have to teach her yourself. Since her chat bot is completely local, Responses come very fast - You don't have to wait for a "round trip" to the cloud.
