FOLLOWING YOUR APPOINTMENT

OTOSCOPY

Following your Otoscopy appointment, if the Tympanic Membrane can be observed, we will check the overall health of the ear. There will not be the need to conduct microsuction.

If you wish, we can proceed on to the hearing screening

EAR WAX REMOVAL

If there is a buildup of cerumen blocking the ear drum, we can attempt to remove the earwax so we can obtain a clearer view. However, 'old' wax can be extremely stubborn and may be adhered to the canal wall, making it difficult to do this in once appointment.

If there is a need for a follow up appointment, we will discuss your after care instructions and book the follow up appointment. Usually, using Olive Oil ear spray helps soften and break down the impacted ear wax, making it easier to remove.

Once the earwax has been removed (if necessary) and we can see a clear view of the Tympanic Membrane, we will check the overall health of the ear. If there are any concerns, queries or abnormalities, with your consent I can upload the HD images and consultation noted to the Tympa Remote Review service, where I can gain further support, advice and guidance from Audiologists and ENT specialists.

HEARING SCREENING

Once your Ear Health check and microsuction (if needed) we can proceed with the Hearing screening test.

This is carried out using the same device used to examine your ears. Our specialised and innovative Tympa Platform utilises a 4-frequency hearing check, with headphones tested at 500Hz, 1,000Hz, 2,000Hz, and 4,000Hz.

Should a weakness be identified, we will discuss this and your options - You may wish to arrange a routine appointment with your GP, or you can take your results to your chosen Audiologist for a full, comprehensive assessment. Alternatively, we can complete a referral via the Tympa Referral system and an accredited Audiologist will contact you directly. Please note: whilst the hearing assessment with our partner services is free, hearing aids are not and will come with additional costs.
