AFI Women’s Entrepreneurship Project-Sustainable Change for Women and Girls

Measurable Project Objectives

The AFI Women’s Entrepreneurship Project will seek to achieve the following measurable objectives:

  1. Entrepreneurship and Business Skills
Provide women with practical training in entrepreneurship, business planning, financial literacy, digital skills, marketing, leadership, and business management.

  2. Business Start-Up and Development
Support women to establish new businesses or strengthen and expand existing enterprises across sectors including agriculture, crafts, technology, retail, manufacturing, and services.

  3. Access to Finance
Improve women entrepreneurs’ knowledge of and access to appropriate sources of finance, including grants, loans, investment opportunities, and other financial resources.

  4. Mentoring and Business Support
Establish a structured mentoring and advisory programme that connects women entrepreneurs with experienced business professionals, mentors, industry specialists, and relevant support organisations.

  5. Business Planning and Sustainability
Support participating women to develop viable business plans, financial projections, operational strategies, and growth plans designed to improve the sustainability and resilience of their enterprises.

  6. Market Access and Networking
Create opportunities for women entrepreneurs to develop professional networks, identify new customers and markets, connect with suppliers and business partners, and participate in relevant trade and networking opportunities.

  7. Digital Transformation
Strengthen women's digital capabilities and encourage the use of technology to improve business operations, marketing, financial management, customer engagement, and access to wider markets.

  8. Employment and Economic Empowerment
Support the growth of women-led businesses in ways that contribute to income generation, employment creation, improved household economic security, and wider community development.

  9. Leadership and Confidence
Strengthen women's confidence, leadership capabilities, decision-making skills, and ability to manage and grow sustainable businesses.

  10. Partnership and Ecosystem Development
Develop partnerships with financial institutions, private-sector organisations, government agencies, NGOs, training providers, investors, and other stakeholders to create a sustainable support ecosystem for African women entrepreneurs.

Monitoring and Evaluation

AFI will establish a clear monitoring and evaluation framework to measure progress against these objectives. Key indicators will include training and programme participation, completion of business plans, businesses established or expanded, access to finance, mentoring engagement, new market opportunities, digital skills development, employment generated, business sustainability, and improvements in participants’ knowledge, confidence, and entrepreneurial capabilities.

Baseline information will be collected at the beginning of the programme, followed by regular progress monitoring and periodic evaluations. This will enable AFI to measure outcomes, identify areas for improvement, demonstrate impact to stakeholders and funders, and ensure that the project remains responsive to the evolving needs of women entrepreneurs.
