'New Beginnings' Season #3 - The Capital Perspective Podcast

New Beginnings: Season #3 of The Capital Perspective Podcast
There is something about the word beginning that has always fascinated me.
A beginning can be exciting. It can be terrifying. It can happen because we choose it, or because life leaves us with no other option. Sometimes a beginning feels like a clean slate. Other times, it simply means getting out of bed the next morning and deciding that we are going to keep going.
For me, September 2026 represents all of those things.
It marks the beginning of something incredibly special: Season #3 of The Capital Perspective Podcast.
Our new season officially begins on September 16, 2026, at 7:00 P.M. EST, and I honestly find myself having a hard time putting into words what reaching this point means to me.
When I first started this podcast, I had no idea where it would take me. I certainly didn't have some giant master plan sitting on my desk with every episode, guest, conversation and milestone mapped out.
I had an idea.
I had a voice.
Most importantly, I had something I wanted to talk about.
Mental health.
Addiction.
Recovery.
Life.
The complicated, messy, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking experiences that make us human.
And somehow, that little idea grew.
Then it grew some more.
Now here we are, preparing to begin Season #3.
If you had told me when I started that we would eventually reach 80,000 downloads and counting, I probably would have laughed and asked you what you were drinking.
Eighty thousand.
That's not just a number to me.
Every download represents someone who pressed play.
Someone who might have been sitting in their car.
Someone walking their dog.
Someone lying awake at two o'clock in the morning.
Someone who needed to hear a different perspective.
Someone who was simply curious.
And maybe, somewhere along the way, someone heard something that made them feel a little less alone.
That is what makes this journey so meaningful.
A Season About Starting Again
Choosing “New Beginnings” as the theme for Season #3 wasn't accidental.
I think most of us understand what it means to begin again.
Maybe you've started a new relationship after heartbreak.
Maybe you've moved to a new city.
Maybe you've started school later in life.
Maybe you've walked away from addiction.
Maybe you've finally asked for help.
Maybe you've changed careers.
Maybe you've decided that the person you were five years ago doesn't have to determine who you become tomorrow.
Or perhaps your new beginning is much smaller.
Maybe today you simply decided to try again.
We sometimes place enormous expectations on the idea of a new beginning. We imagine that starting over means everything suddenly becomes better.
But real life doesn't work that way.
A new beginning doesn't erase the past.
It gives us an opportunity to understand it differently.
Our experiences become part of our story, but they don't necessarily have to become our entire identity.
That distinction matters.
I've learned that sometimes moving forward doesn't mean forgetting where you've been. It means taking what you've learned and carrying it with you without allowing it to control every step you take.
That's something I want Season #3 to explore.
Why Mental Health Conversations Matter
Mental health isn't something that belongs in one particular building, one particular profession or one particular conversation.
It belongs everywhere.
It belongs at the kitchen table.
It belongs in classrooms.
It belongs in workplaces.
It belongs among friends.
It belongs in families.
And yes, it belongs in podcasts.
One of the things I've always wanted The Capital Perspective to do is create conversations that feel accessible.
Not every conversation needs complicated terminology.
Not everyone understands clinical language.
And not everyone feels comfortable walking into a therapist's office and immediately explaining everything they are experiencing.
Sometimes the first step is simply hearing another person talk honestly about something you've been struggling with.
That's powerful.
We need more conversations that remind people that asking for help isn't weakness.
We need more conversations about addiction that move beyond stereotypes.
We need more conversations about recovery that recognize there isn't one universal path.
And we need more conversations about mental health that allow people to be human.
Because none of us have everything figured out.
And if someone tells you they do, I have one question:
Where can I get their instruction manual?
Seriously.
If somebody has successfully figured out adulthood, relationships, finances, careers, sleep schedules, laundry and what to make for dinner every single night, please introduce me.
I'll take notes.
Looking Back at the Journey
Reaching Season #3 also gives me an opportunity to look backwards.
Not because I want to live in the past, but because sometimes we need to stop moving long enough to recognize how far we've travelled.
There have been challenges.
There have been unexpected moments.
There have been conversations that stayed with me long after the microphone was turned off.
There have been guests who shared experiences that made me think differently.
And there have been moments where I've questioned whether I was doing enough.
I think that's normal.
We can celebrate success and still experience self-doubt.
We can be proud of something and still wonder what's next.
Those feelings aren't contradictions.
They're part of being human.
When I think about the podcast today, I don't just think about episodes.
I think about people.
I think about the guests who trusted me enough to share their stories.
I think about listeners who have supported the podcast.
I think about the people who have sent messages, shared episodes, recommended the show to friends or simply pressed play.
Every one of those things helped build what The Capital Perspective has become.
And for that, I am incredibly grateful.
80,000 Downloads and Counting
There is another milestone that deserves some attention.
We've now reached 80,000 downloads and counting.
When I say that out loud, it still sounds slightly surreal.
Eighty thousand people downloading a podcast isn't something I take for granted.
In a world where there are millions of podcasts competing for attention, every listener matters.
Every click matters.
Every share matters.
Every recommendation matters.
And every person who decides to spend part of their day listening to my conversations has my genuine thanks.
The podcast wouldn't be what it is without that support.
Numbers can sometimes feel impersonal, but behind every number is a human being.
That's what I try to remember.
The goal has never been simply to chase a bigger number.
The goal is to create something worth listening to.
If the audience continues to grow along the way, that's an incredible bonus.
The People Behind the Conversations
One of my favourite parts of hosting The Capital Perspective is meeting people I probably would never have encountered otherwise.
Everyone has a story.
That's something I've become increasingly convinced of.
You can meet someone and see only a small portion of their life.
You don't necessarily know what happened before they walked into the room.
You don't know what they're carrying.
You don't know what they've survived.
You don't know what they're worried about when they go home.
You don't know what dreams they're quietly pursuing.
And you certainly don't know how many times they've had to begin again.
That's why I'm interested in conversations.
Not just interviews.
Conversations.
There is a difference.
An interview can be about questions and answers.
A conversation can become something much more meaningful.
It's the moment when someone stops giving the expected answer and starts telling you what they actually think.
It's when a guest laughs unexpectedly.
It's when a serious subject becomes personal.
It's when somebody says something that makes you stop and think.
Those are the moments I love.
And those are the moments I hope we continue creating throughout Season #3.
September Is Just the Beginning
September has always felt like a month of transition.
Summer starts fading.
The evenings become different.
People return to routines.
Students head back to school.
Calendars fill up.
There is this strange feeling that we're all collectively pressing the reset button.
For me, September 2026 feels particularly significant.
Season #3 begins September 16.
Then we continue on September 23 and September 30 at 7:00 P.M. EST.
Three dates.
Three new opportunities to have meaningful conversations.
Three reminders that the journey continues.
And that's really what this season represents.
Continuation.
Growth.
Curiosity.
And, above all else, new beginnings.
What Does a New Beginning Mean to You?
This is where I want to turn the question around.
What does a new beginning mean to you?
Maybe you're currently experiencing one.
Maybe you're preparing for one.
Maybe you desperately need one but don't know where to start.
Maybe you've already had several.
Think about that for a moment.
If you could start one part of your life again—not erase it, not pretend it never happened, but approach it with everything you know now—what would you do differently?
That's a difficult question.
It can also be a very powerful one.
We can't change yesterday.
We can't rewrite conversations.
We can't undo decisions.
We can't control every circumstance that brought us to where we are today.
But we can decide what happens next.
And sometimes that decision is enough to begin.
Thank You
As Season #3 approaches, I want to take a moment to say something that can sometimes get lost when we're busy looking ahead.
Thank you.
Thank you to every listener.
Thank you to every guest.
Thank you to everyone who has shared an episode.
Thank you to the people who have encouraged me when I needed it.
Thank you to those who believed in the idea before the numbers became impressive.
And thank you to the people who continue to show up.
Reaching Season #3 makes me proud.
It also makes me incredibly grateful.
I'm proud because I know how much work has gone into getting here.
I'm grateful because I know I didn't get here alone.
The Capital Perspective may have my name attached to it, but the journey belongs to everyone who has been part of it.
And now, we're ready for another chapter.
Season #3: New Beginnings.
September 16.
September 23.
September 30.
7:00 P.M. EST.
New conversations.
New perspectives.
New stories.
New opportunities to learn something about ourselves and each other.
So wherever you are when you press play, I hope you'll join me.
Bring your curiosity.
Bring your questions.
Bring your experiences.
And if you're currently standing at the beginning of something new, remember this:
You don't have to know exactly where the road ends to take the first step.
Sometimes you just need enough courage to begin.
I'll see you in Season #3.
And who knows?
Maybe your next chapter is about to begin too.
